The TrueKitten Standard Contract

Every TrueKitten sale uses one standard, plain-English contract — fair to both sides, shown to buyers before they offer. No copy-pasting, no fine-print traps.

Stop stitching a sale contract together from other catteries and hoping it holds up. Read the exact contract you'd use below — the whole thing, in plain English and in full.

What this says, in plain English

  • Health guarantee: 2 years against congenital defects
  • You must have a vet check the kitten within 72 hours — this activates your guarantee
  • Kitten must be spayed/neutered by 8 months
  • Indoor cat only. No declawing, ever.
  • Can't keep the cat someday? It's never shelter-bound — the breeder takes it back, or approves the new home.

Sale Terms

The Breeder agrees to sell, and the Buyer agrees to purchase, the kitten identified in this agreement for the agreed purchase price. Payment is made through the TrueKitten platform's payment flow; no part of the purchase price is paid outside the platform.

Ownership of the kitten transfers to the Buyer at the completed in-person handover. Until handover, the kitten remains in the Breeder's care and at the Breeder's sole responsibility and expense.

Health Guarantee

The Breeder guarantees the kitten against congenital and hereditary conditions for 2 years from the date of handover. This guarantee is the Breeder's own undertaking to the Buyer, on the Breeder's own terms as stated in this agreement.

This guarantee applies only if the Buyer has the kitten examined by a licensed veterinarian within 72 hours of handover and promptly notifies the Breeder in writing of any findings from that examination.

Spay/Neuter

The Buyer agrees to have the kitten spayed/neutered by a licensed veterinarian by 8 months of age and to provide the Breeder with written confirmation from that veterinarian.

Indoor-Only Home

The Buyer agrees to keep the cat as an indoor cat. Supervised outdoor access in a secure enclosure is permitted.

No Declawing

The Buyer agrees never to have the cat declawed (onychectomy) or tendonectomized.

Return to Breeder

If at any time, for any reason, the Buyer can no longer keep the cat, the Buyer agrees to contact the Breeder first. The cat must be returned to the Breeder, or rehomed only with the Breeder's prior written consent — never surrendered to a shelter, rescue, or third party without that consent. A return under this clause does not entitle the Buyer to a refund of the purchase price.

Disputes

The parties agree to first attempt to resolve any disagreement arising from this agreement directly and in good faith, and to use the TrueKitten resolution process for transaction-related issues before pursuing other remedies available to them.

Your Rights & General Terms

Nothing in this agreement waives, limits, or reduces any right or remedy the Buyer has under applicable federal or state law, including any state pet purchaser protection ("pet lemon") law or consumer protection statute. Where any term of this agreement conflicts with a right that the law does not permit the Buyer to waive, that law controls and the Buyer keeps that right in full.

If any provision of this agreement is held invalid or unenforceable, that provision is limited or removed only to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions stay in full force and effect.
